How Social Media can help you Build an Exclusive Email List
Every online marketing we do is algorithm dependent may it be social media ads, organic reach, or search engine optimization. Tomorrow Google or Facebook or Twitter can change their algorithm, and your reach and rankings can go from sky-high to ground-low.
However, there is one exception: Emails. Emails are independent of algorithm changes. Once you have a prospect’s email, you can be 100% sure that the message reaches him/her. Apart from this reason, the fact that email marketing can give a $32 return for every $1 spent makes it even more attractive.
Long story short, email marketing is impactful, and you/businesses should do everything in their power to build a relevant email list.
Now, there are many email list growing strategies one can implement, but one that is least talked about, yet equally impact-ful, is the use of social media to capture emails.
Using social media to build an email list
There are several ways to leverage social media and get potential emails. Here are three of those:
- Facebook “Sign Up” button:
Before reading further: if you don’t have a facebook business page, create one.
Facebook allows businesses to add their desired CTAs, and sign up can be one of them. Implement it right from the get-go.
Now, invite your prospects to like your page. If needed, run a few promotions as well. In the ad, you can directly implement the ‘sign up’ button. Alternatively, if the user is landing on your business page, try to persuade them into signing up. One of the better ways to do that is by using the cover image.
Design your cover image in a way that tells the visitor “What’s in it for them?”.
- Giveaways:
This one’s huge. YouTubers and influencers do it frequently. Their aim is to get followers across the web, i.e., If someone is a YouTuber, their giveaway will have a condition to follow them on Instagram to participate. This way, they build their brand.
We, on the other hand, have a different goal, but the strategy can remain the same. Just build a beautiful landing page using something like postcards email builder, and direct traffic from social media to there. Keep “signing up to the email list” as mandatory to be a participant of the giveaway.

Alternatively, promote a free ebook or something on social media(which they get on their email once they sign up). This way, they know they are getting something, and nothing is luck or by chance, unlike in giveaways.
Overall, both works. A/B test if you are not sure.
- Kill two birds with one stone:
This one is obvious yet effective: Direct sell.
Run targeted ads to sell your products/services. If someone is interested, they will click on the ad to buy. And what’s common no matter from which site you purchase? You guessed it- Emails!
To buy, people have to Login first. Meaning, you get their email and you sell your product or service. Indeed, a double win!
Final words:
Emails are effective. In fact, 40x more effective than Facebook or Twitter, when it comes to customer acquisition. Therefore, building an email list is crucial. And we discussed one of the ways to capture more emails through social media.
