Google Knowledge Panels That Are Expandable

Looks like Google is trying out the expandable featured snippets in the knowledge panel location. Mordy Oberstein spotted this and posted on Twitter videos and screen shots of it. I can replicate it.

If you search for [allergy peanut] on desktop or mobile Google search, you can see it yourself. Here is a screen shot:

Here is what it looks like when expanded:

The weird thing is when you switch the query around from [allergy peanut] to [peanut allergy] you get a featured snippet instead that is NOT expandable:

Weird!

Technically this might not be new, but hey.

I’m 99.9% sure this did not roll out with the initial placement of the panel on the SERP
