“Captain Marvel” Set For Massive Debut
Long range tracking figures for early March are in with Marvel Studios’ “Captain Marvel” already on track for a projected $160 million opening weekend domestically on March 8th.
Box-Office Pro reported the numbers, saying the range could fall between $140-180 million. The film is breaking pre-sale records and could well increase on those estimates as we get closer to its release.
Set in the 1990s, Oscar-winner Brie Larson stars as Carol Danvers, a pilot with superhuman powers who gets caught up in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races. Samuel L. Jackson and Clark Gregg reprise their roles of Nick Fury and Phil Coulson (thanks to digital de-ageing), while Lee Pace and Djimon Hounsou also reprise their roles.
Last year’s Marvel Studios films “Black Panther” opened to $202 million, “Avengers: Infinity War” nabbed $258 million, and “Ant-Man and the Wasp” opened to $76 million.
