Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 released

Well, it’s 2019 and that means we’re in the year where we’re going to see another Call of Duty game released.In that gap of weightless time between Christmas and New Year – where time is a little bit melty and everyone is full of too much food – Infinity Ward’s Communications Manager, Ashton Williams, had been tweeting images and GIFs of spooky ghost imagery… mostly without context.

Because the internet is a wild place where anything goes, many core Call of Duty players took this as a hint that the next game would be Ghosts 2.

This makes a sort-of sense: the 2019 CoD game is coming from Infinity Ward in 2019 now that Sledgehammer and Treyarch have had their turns with WWII and Black Ops 4 respectively.

That said, Kotaku reporter Jason Schreier — a well-known, highly respected games journalist — has responded on a thread on ResetEra saying Call of Duty 2019 is not Ghosts 2.“It ain’t Ghosts 2!”

Elsewhere on the internet, CharlieINTEL also agrees that the upcoming new title won’t be Ghosts 2.

Back in February 2018. Activision’s former CEO said:

“Its suffice to say I think we have the best 3 year slate in Call of Duty’s history, which is really saying something given this franchise’s history. And I think we’ve got multiple different game universes that we know our players love on tap, so obviously, more to come on that.”

CharlieINTEL’s sources suggest that these universes the company has ‘on tap’ are going to be taken advantage of and that 2019’s title will likely be a return to Modern Warfare.

Back in May 2018, CharlieINTEL reported that several Infinity Ward developers who moved to Respawn back in 2010 had returned to Infinity Ward in recent years, suggesting that Modern Warfare 4 could “feel more like the OG Call of Duty titles”.”This lines up with information that charlieINTEL has heard about Infinity Ward’s next Call of Duty title,” says the site, noting that they also expect it to be Modern Warfare 4, or similar.

Of course, we have not heard anything from Activision regarding the next Call of Duty game just yet – we expect a big formal reveal in May (at least, if previous years are anything to go by).
