Destiny 2 Black Armory Launch Trailer Confirms Last Word Return

It won’t be too much longer before Guardians of all ilk will have the chance to access Destiny 2‘s Black Armory DLC, with the science fiction shooter’s latest add-on set to go live tomorrow. Without a doubt, one of the main draws of the expansion is Bungie’s inclusion of a slew of powerful firearms for players to earn and wield. With this being the case, the developer’s trailer for the forthcoming DLC wisely chooses to highlight each of them in action, and has also teased the of one of the series’ most highly coveted hand cannons–The Last Word.

As seen in the launch trailer for Destiny 2‘s Black Armory DLC, each exotic weapon in the expansion gets its time to shine, with Izanagi’s Burden, No Feelings, Le Monarque, Hammerhead, Jötunn, Kindled Orchid, Threat Level, and Anarchy’s abilities all on display. Arguably, though, the star of the show is The Last Word, and fans can get a decent idea of how the hand cannon’s return will come about through the exotic quest known as “The Draw”.

For those unaware, The Last Word was initially introduced into the franchise in Destiny Year One, and was given another version in Year Two’s expansion, The Taken King, and one in Year Three. The hand cannon became a fan-favorite for a while due to its high damage output and fast fire rate, but eventually fell out of favor after being re-balanced.

Reintroducing The Last Word to players in Destiny 2 during Forsaken is as good a time as any. This is especially true due to the fact that one of the gun’s animations has Guardians “fanning” their hands on the hammer while firing, like one would typically see actors do with old single-action revolvers in Spaghetti Western films.

Taking all of this into consideration, it’s great to see Bungie bringing back a weapon as revered as The Last Word in Destiny 2‘s Black Armory DLC, for not only does it serve as a fantastic bit of fan service, but also it works to give newbies a chance to give the gun a go for the first time. That said, though, it will be interesting to see whether or not the developer has enhanced, retained, or nerfed the original’s specs, which is made it so popular in the first place.
