Google Maps receives a handy new feature

Maps is the Mountain View firm’s navigation tool that is available on desktops in addition to iOS and Android platforms.

Moreover, the software is regularly updated, meaning new functionality is consistently introduced.

Google recently announced it was rolling out a new that would allow users of the navigation service to message other businesses.

Now, when a user clicks on a business they will see a new “message” option on its profile page.

Once toggled, the application will then open a traditional chat view where users can ask questions to the outlet in question.

Explaining the tool, Google said: “Last year we enabled users in select countries to message businesses from the Business Profiles on Google.

“Sending messages to businesses gives you the opportunity to ask questions without having to make a phone call so that you can order a cake for your mom’s birthday while on the bus or find out if a shoe store has your size without having to wait on hold.”

But now Google Maps is receiving another new upgrade that will surely make a big difference for fans of the app.

TechCrunch recently insisted Google is now allowing users to add hashtags into reviews on Maps.

The outlet said the American tech behemoth confirmed the existence of the feature and stated it is currently only available for Android platforms.

The addition means if a user is reviewing a restaurant, they can add hashtags saying “vegetarian” or “family friendly”, to provide details that may not instantly accessible otherwise.

Google emphasised users should use at least five hashtags at the end of each review, TechCrunch added.

The outlet noted the Mountain View firm stated hashtags that do not offer further insights into the particular eatery, such as hashtag “food”, should not be added to reviews.

If a user is reading a recommendation and they see a hashtag that interests them, they are able to tap on it to see other nearby locations that have been awarded the same tag.

It appears Google is determined to improve Maps’ overall discoverability with the new addition.

Unfortunately, it was not detailed when iOS and desktop users would receive the new hashtag feature.
