How to Unlock Surf, Fly, and Other Secret Techniques

With the exclusion of HM’s from Pokemon in the Sun and Moon entries of the series, we’ve seen GameFreak try to replace the mechanic in various ways. Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee do so with a new type of move they’ve labeled .
These special moves learned by your starter Pokemon, be it Eevee or Pikachu, will act as HM’s, clearing out bushes, dashing through the sky, or skimming across the water.
Here’s where to get every Secret Technique in the game:

Where to get Cut (a.k.a. Chop Down)[edit]

After you’ve arrived in Vermillion City, make your way to the S.S. Anne. After fighting through all the trainers there and making your way to the very sick Captain, he will reward you by teaching your partner Pokémon Chop Down.

Where to get Flash (a.k.a. Light Up)[edit]

After beating the Vermillion City Gym and making your way through Diglett’s Cave, you’ll arrive at a small house occupied by one of Professor Oak’s assistants. Speak with him and he’ll teach your starter Pokémon the Secret Technique, Light Up. Which replaces Flash from the previous games and allows you to light up dark caves.

Where to get Strength (a.k.a. Strong Push)[edit]

Arriving in Fuchsia City, the man in the house to the east of the Pokémon Center will be missing his teeth. You can find them by interacting with Jessie and James on the beaches of Route 19 to the south. Return them to the Warden and he will teach your partner Pokémon Strong Push, a move that replaces Strength and allows you to push large boulders across the floor.

The second Secret technique you can learn in Fuchsia City, the man standing in front of a Lapras to the west of Go Park will gladly teach your Starter Sea Skim, a move that replaces Surf and allows you to glide across large bodies of water on a surf board.

Last but not least is Sky Dash. After making your way past Fuchsia City, head back to Celadon City via Route 18-Route 16. As you make your way back through the city toward Saffron City, stop and speak to the man standing in front of the Game corner with a strange balloon device. This prototype machine he will give to you, teaching your Partner Pokémon Sky Dash, which replaces Fly and allows you to travel to any previously visited Pokémon Center.
