How to Convert HEIC to JPG on Windows 10 | Tips & Tricks
One of the most annoying things in your computing life is having files that can not be used by applications on your computer. If this has happened to you, then you know how frustrating it can be.
Unfortunately, new iPhones and iPads currently take pictures in the new HEIF (High-Efficiency Image Format) and save images with an HEIC extension. This format with all its advantages is alien to Windows 10. This simply means that most of your applications will not support or be able to use these files.
With its ability to occupy very little memory, it seems like an extension for the long run. If you hit a brick wall with viewing HEIF files on your Windows 10, here are a few software you can use to convert it to JPG.
1. HEIC Converter Free
This is a free program for converting HEIC pictures to JEPG. This program allows you to select the picture quality before conversion. You can also choose to preserve or remove Exif data during conversion. A final feature of HEIC converter free is its support for batch resizing.
You can select the 100% option which will not make photos blurred but preserve them in the same quality. To keep the high quality, it is wise to choose more than 85% so that the converted images will not be compromised after compression.
This free tool works for iPhone 7 or higher and will allow you to convert HEIC files into JPG/PNG photos one by one or in a batch mode.
2. iMazing HEIC Converter
This is an easy-to-use, ad-free and simplistic tool. iMazing HEIC Converter makes converting HEICs to the JPG format fun.
You can add by using drag-and-drop or File Menu. This program permits conversion into both JPEG and PNG formats.
The features of this software include:
- Convert HEIC to JPG
- Convert HEIC to PNG
- Drag and drop .heic files or folders
- Fast and easy to use
- Preserves EXIF metadata
- Support for color profiles, including wide-gamut
3. HEIC Image Converter Tool
This free app can be found on the Windows store. The HEIC Image Converter Tool allows support for JPG, PNG and JPEG formats. With this tool it is hard to see its cons, making it a great way to do conversions.
Just like iMazing, this is another easy-to-use tool. You basically need these three steps to convert images.
- Select image
- Select the output format
- Convert image
4. iOS “Automatic” transfer mode
Compatibility issues with HEIC is a problem, but not one that eludes Apple. Unlike the third-party apps discussed earlier, this is a built-in iOS setting. It permits automatic conversions while files are being transferred to Windows 10 via USB.
Using this setting means when importing images using the Photos app, an automatic conversion to JPG format happens. This method is totally seamless.
5. CopyTrans HEIC for Windows
Once again, this is another free app. The CopyTrans HEIC program was developed to aid Windows users to be able to use HEIC images on Windows 7 and Windows 8. These two OS obviously do not have HEIC support. CopyTrans HEIC can, however, convert to JPG but not png.
In Windows 10 CopyTrans HEIC can act as a plugin allowing you to open HEIC files using the Windows Photo Viewer.
6. Use email
Pretty simply, you may be hitting your head and wondering why you did not immediately use this solution. No special trick is needed for this. Open your Gmail and attach the pictures. They will automatically convert to JPG. Once you open your mail and download the files to your Windows 10, you are done.
Conclusion
It is not necessary to recommend a method to you. You should just dive in and try as many alternatives as you want. This way you will discover the conversion method that suits you the most. I personally use the fastest method, but as you try out the different methods of viewing your HEIC files on Windows, you will become the judge of that.
