Final Fantasy 13 Games Coming to Xbox Backwards Compatibility | Gaming News

During Microsoft’s Inside Xbox: X018 Special, it was revealed that all three Final Fantasy 13 games will be backwards compatible on Xbox One next week.

Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII-2, and Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will all be playable on Xbox One, with Xbox One X enhancements, beginning next Tuesday, November 13.

Final Fantasy XIII was released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010 and in our review, we said that FFXIII is “a great JRPG” but “hardcore Final Fantasy fans might be disappointed by the game’s abandonment of franchise traditions like open worlds, town exploration and complex mini-games.”

Its sequel, Final Fantasy XIII-2, was released in 2012 and while it “proves itself the better game,” it “lacks the same focused storytelling employed in the original.”

The last entry in the Final Fantasy XIII saga, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, was released in 2014 and in our review we said it “successfully reinvents combat, but forgets what made us love these characters.”

As was previously announced following a Nintendo Direct, all these Final Fantasy XIII games will be joined by Final Fantasy VII, IX, X, X-2, and XII: The Zodiac Age in 2019.

In other Final Fantasy News, the director of Final Fantasy XV recently left Square Enix and three of the upcoming four DLC stories for the latest Final Fantasy were cancelled.
