Ninja And Fortnite Teaming Up For New Year’s Eve Event | Gaming News

is a global phenomenon at a level rarely seen in video games, and its influence is tangible in virtually every segment of modern day pop culture. In fact, even this year’s New Year’s Eve event in Times Square, New York City seems to have caught the Fortnite Fever.

Prominent internet personality and professional Fortnite streamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins announced Ninja’s New Year, an event in partnership with Red Bull where Ninja will stream Fortnite live from Times Square. The event will last from 4 PM ET New Year’s Eve through 4 AM ET New Year’s Day, giving a worldwide audience 12 full hours to celebrate the new year with Ninja and Fortnite. The event will be hosted on Ninja’s Twitch channel.

The event, hosted by Ninja himself, will feature various “surprises” as well as special guests, who will be announced via Ninja’s social channels throughout December. Thanks to his massive popularity on Twitch as a Fortnite streamer, Ninja has earned the opportunity to mingle with celebrities like Drake and EDM star Marshmellow, although no specific names were mentioned in regards to the guest list.

The fact that a video game is taking such a significant role in the historic Times Square New Year’s Eve event, right alongside the iconic midnight ball drop, just underscores Fortnite‘s nearly unprecedented influence. Ninja himself had this to say about the significance of the event:

“When I started in , I never thought that something like this would be possible. NYE has always been fun for gamers because it’s a night where you have a widely accepted excuse to stay up and game, but there’s never been an event in the mainstream that’s actually built around that tradition.”

While today’s news is undoubtedly exciting for Fortnite and Ninja fans, the battle royale game celebrates all seasons, including the current one leading into Halloween. This year’s Halloween-themed event, Fortnitemares, just introduced its second set of challenges, and Game Rant tracked down the ghost decorations needed to complete one of the trickier challenges.

Alongside the new challenges for Fortnitemares, Season 6’s week 5 challenges are also live, which should keep Fortnite players plenty busy in the weeks leading up to Ninja’s New Year.

Fortnite is available now for Android, iOS, Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
