AI Can Track Eye Movements To Predict Your Personality

By now we should have an understanding of what artificial (AI) is capable of today, and what it could accomplish in the future. Now, the latest possible thing AI could do in the future, according to one study, is to human personality traits.

A recent study done by the University of South Australia has shown that artificial intelligence is capable of telling the type of personality traits that live inside any human being. To accomplish this, the university tracked the eye movements of 42 participants while they go about their daily lives.

Now, before the subjects were made to live with an AI watching their every move, they were required to take part in a personality questionnaire. We understand that the data taken from the AI were compared with the ones from the personality questionnaire to see if the artificial intelligence system was on point.

Machine learning algorithms were then used to track the eye movements of each participant with the big five personality traits, which are experience, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism.

What they found was quite impressive. You see, the data the AI picked up matched very well with each person’s personality. This means that in the future, machines could gain the ability to interact better with humans, which is very important if we are to have our own personal robots.

“People are always looking for improved, personalized services. However, today’s robots and computers are not socially aware, so they cannot adapt to non-verbal cues,” according to Dr. Tobias Loetscher, a researcher on the project.

“This research provides opportunities to develop robots and computers so that they can become more natural, and better at interpreting human social signals.”

Despite what the University of South Australia with this artificial intelligence system, it’s clear that the product is far from ready. However, it gives us great insight into the future of our world.
