Jack Ma to meet Tun M on DFTZ project | Digital Asia
PETALING JAYA (May 25): Alibaba Group executive chairman Jack Ma will be in Malaysia to meet Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad “soon”, reported local Chinese daily Nanyang Siang Pau.
Quoting a “reliable” source, the daily said “several stakeholders” have called on Ma to visit the new leader of the country.
The main topic of discussion at the upcoming meeting is expected to be on the Digital Free Trade Zone (DFTZ).
Ma was invited by former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to officiate the launch of DFTZ in November last year. Ma told the media then that DFTZ marks the beginning of a long-term bilateral trade relationship for both countries.
The new Pakatan Harapan government has announced it will be reviewing and renegotiating the terms of China-Malaysia projects, including the East Coast Rail Link, the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park and Bandar Malaysia projects.
There was no mention of a review of the DFTZ specifically, to date.
