Jon Favreau’s Star Wars series has a name, and first details | Gaming News
Jon Favreau announced tonight that his Star Wars series will be called The Mandalorian, and follow a “lone gunfighter.”
“After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe,” Favreau said in an Instagram post. “The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.”
These mark the first details Favreau has shared about the series, which will live exclusively on Disney’s stand-alone streaming service. The Mandalorian will be a live-action Star Wars series, and is one of the most anticipated of all the new original shows Disney has ordered for its service.
Disney Play, a name that Disney CEO Bob Iger said could change, will launch in late 2019. Spinoff series for popular Marvel characters like Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) are also reportedly set to join the streaming service. Iger previously said a new High School Musical and Monsters, Inc. series will debut exclusively on the service.
