Splinter Cell and Assassin’s Creed Universe are Linked | Gaming News

Although Assassin’s Odyssey officially launches in a couple of days, another Ubisoft project has recently come to the fore. Recently, Ubisoft’s CCO talked about the return of Splinter Cell, which certainly had fans of the franchise clamoring for more. However, it appears that Ubisoft fans are in for a real treat, as an Easter egg in the latest AC entry suggests that these two universes are .

This Easter egg follows rumors for some time now that the Assassin’s Creed universe was linked to the Watch Dogs universe, though now it appears the latter is replaced with or joined by Splinter Cell. As seen below, this Easter egg takes place during a modern-day section of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and alludes to Splinter Cell. When modern-day protagonist Layla comes across Sam Fisher’s goggles, she knowledgeably refers to the Third Echelon – an organization in the Splinter Cell universe that began the program.

This simple allusion could easily mean any number of things, ranging from a simple tongue-in-cheek reference that ultimately means nothing to a hint about Splinter Cell‘s return. Many are likely clinging to the latter, hoping this means another Splinter Cell game will be coming soon. Either way, this nod may very well have a lot of players excited to see what comes next from Ubisoft.

After all, the latest Ubisoft title – Assassin’s Creed Odyssey – has received some solid reviews, receiving a 4/5 from us here at Game Rant. As it moves forward with post-launch events and DLC, it’ll be interesting to see if Ubisoft is able to keep this ball rolling.

In the end, it could be some time before we see this Easter egg pay off. If it does mean another Splinter Cell game is coming, it is sure to be a wait. Nevertheless, if it means nothing else, this is still a cool nod to a fan-favorite and long-running series. Tell us, Ranters, what do you think it means?

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will release on October 5, 2018, for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with some pre-order versions available now.
