Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery Adds Magical Pets Side Quest | Gaming News
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery recently added two new pets to the game in the form of a dog and a streeler, the latter being a magical snail-like creature that can change into a variety of different colors. As it turns out, Jam City has added a side quest for these so-called “magical pets,” though it really doesn’t offer much of substance beyond being an easy way for players to get some XP.
After downloading the latest update for Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, players can unlock the Magical Pets side quest. The first step to this side quest is speaking with Hagrid in the courtyard. The conversation with Hagrid explains away the potential plot hole that Hogwarts students aren’t allowed pets that aren’t owls, rats, cats, or toads, and then sends players off to their dormitory.
Upon visiting their dorm, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery players will find that it has expanded quite a bit, with two additional pet slots added to the room. These slots are presumably for the streeler and the dog, though it seems impossible at the time of this writing to actually adopt either one of them.
That’s because Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery players can only adopt these magical pets by using a new currency called notebooks. At the time of this writing, the only way to get notebooks is by participating in the House Pride event, where players are rewarded for getting house points from their teachers in classes or through story events. However, even if players fully complete the House Pride event, it doesn’t seem as though there is a way to get enough notebooks to purchase the pets, so it’s likely that Jam City will add other ways to get notebooks at some point in the future.
As for the actual Magical Pets side quest, completing it is just a matter of first speaking to Hagrid in the courtyard and then visiting the dorm. Afterwards, players can resume their normal studies as they wait patiently for Year 5 Chapter 3 to finally make its way to the mobile game.
Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is out now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
