GSMA says 120 crore people use internet to end poverty | Social Media

Web Desk: The smartphone industry is continuing to grow. According to recent report of GSMA, smartphones are helping people in developing countries out of abject poverty, reported 

The latest report says that more than 5 billion people across the globe are now connected to mobile network, 400 million of whom newly joint since 2015. It is aiding people to overcome poverty, lack of access to infrastructure and more.

The UN has a list of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which it believes are the main problems across the world that need to be tackled to achieve a better and more sustainable future. And according to the GSMA, increasing access to mobile networks is helping work through at least some of those SDGs, especially those related to industry and infrastructure.

Director General of the GSMA, Mats Granryd said, “More than two-thirds of the people on the planet are now connected to a mobile network, mobile is the primary, sometimes only, channel for accessing the internet and life-enhancing service.”

“Today’ s report reveals how the mobile industry is playing central role in accelerating delivery of the SDGs and leveraging the power of mobile networks and services to transform lives around the world.”

Basically, thanks to increasing mobile coverage around the world, they expect more than half the planet’s population will have mobile internet access by 2020.
