Team GoDaddy heads to Grace Hopper Celebration 2018 | Email Marketing
The 24th annual Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing will take place in Texas on Wednesday, September 26, where nearly 20,000 attendees will flood the Houston Convention Center to listen to keynote speakers, attend informative panels, visit with companies hiring for STEM positions and much more.
I was fortunate to attend the 2017 conference and was astounded by the turnout along with the caliber of attendees. With over 18,000 registrants from 81 countries, this truly is the largest gathering of women technologists and supporters of women in digital on the planet. There were roughly 1,000 men registered – although they stood out, each was there to show their support for diversity in STEM.
“I have never seen so many women who embody excellence and a passion for computing in one place. In the same breath, I have never seen so many companies gathered to increase their diversity numbers so actively and deliberately.”
—Sisipho Zinja, Computer Science major, University of Rochester
At GoDaddy, we value diversity. We are transparent about our numbers and made an explicit change in how we promote people – a change that lead to promoting 30% more women in 2017. We are not shy about calling out the gender gap in tech and taking direct action to impact change.
- Support the organizers and attendees of the world’s largest gathering of women technologists
- Support women leaders who pay it forward to future generations by sharing knowledge and experience as panelists and speakers
- Learn from leaders, network, and find ways for us to add value in the community
- Recruit employees to lead our next wave of innovation
What does Grace Hopper Celebration mean to you?
I asked a few GoDaddy team members who have attended in the past what it means for them and for GoDaddy to represent in force. Here’s what they had to say.
On AnitaB.org’s vision of “a future where the people who imagine and build technology mirror the people and societies for whom they build it,” Gail Giacobbe, GoDaddy VP – Product Management:
“This statement catches my eye every time I visit the AnitaB.org Grace Hopper Conference site, and this is precisely why I’m so excited for GoDaddy to participate in the conference again this year. At GoDaddy we know the majority of small business owners around the globe are female, and we are committed to ensuring our workforce reflects the customers we serve.
The Grace Hopper conference is our opportunity to connect with the broader community and exchange ideas on how to accelerate inclusion and equity. I look forward to watching GoDaddy women share their wisdom on panels about ‘Navigating the transition from technical to management,’ ‘Personal Brand,’ and ‘Effective Networking: Build a Tech Women Community Across Organizations,’ and I can’t wait to bring back new insights to our thriving GoDaddy Women in Tech group’s 14 chapters across the US and EMEA.”
On her experience at Grace Hopper Celebration 2017, Thea Brunner of the GoDaddy University Relations team:
“Working at the Grace Hopper conference the past several years has been amazing! 2017 was an especially eye-opening experience, as I worked the front of the booth and spoke to so many incredible women every day. The range of their experiences, ambitions, and career goals were unbelievably diverse, and I have no doubt that these women will go on to make amazing impacts in this world. Meeting so many ambitious women, hearing their stories, and helping them find careers in tech is one of the most rewarding parts of my job that I look forward to every year – and I can’t wait for 2018!”
On how we view Grace Hopper Celebration, Auguste Goldman, Chief Care Officer:
“Grace Hopper is one of our premier global tech conferences. We send our best folks and we look to this conference to attract the next generation of engineers building innovative products for our customers. We like to go big at Hopper as the talent at this conference is second to none. We use the week to strengthen our employer brand and inspire folks to our mission and our tech stack. This conference is a highlight of our tech year.”
Personally, I am excited to head GHC for the second year in a row, where I’ll attend sessions and report from the ground. Follow the conversation on Twitter, and stop by the GoDaddy booth if you were able to make it to Houston this year. We’d love to see you there.
