Final call to enrol in Hong Leong’s recruitment hackathon | Digital Asia

HONG Leong Bank Bhd (HLB) and Islamic Bank (HLISB) (the Bank) are reimagining the way of hiring fit-for-future talent as well as rewarding great ideas for better banking.

The Bank is collaborating with JomHack Malaysia to introduce a 24-hour hackathon aimed at talents capable of coming up with exciting and creative solutions for banking and business-related challenges.

Domenic Fuda (pic), group managing director and chief executive officer of HLB said the hackathon is another innovative approach the financial institution is taking to reimagine banking across the customer lifecycle.

“As we forge ahead in building a more -led banking business and offering smart solutions to our customers, we are actively looking for talent to join the Bank or work with us in creating new and exciting customer value propositions.

“The challenge that participants or “hackers” will face is to come up with game-changing ideas that can revolutionise the way customers do banking today. These ideas can either be adopted internally within the Bank or commercialised by the start-ups.

“In line with our ethos of fostering a strategic digital mindset by being digital-at-the-core and driven by the vision to be an innovative Asean financial institution, it is paramount that we transform the way we recruit talents and look at business opportunities,” said Fuda.

The ‘Can You Hack It 2018′ will be a 24-hour hackathon opened to final year university students, fresh graduates, freelancers as well as startup entrepreneurs and those from the tech community who will compete for cash prizes.

The prizes totaling RM14,000 will be awarded to the top three teams at RM8,000, RM5,000 and RM1,000 respectively for the most innovative and ingenious proposals and solutions applicable to banking.

Outstanding candidates may also receive an invitation to join the Bank while promising projects may receive further funding and support for incubator or accelerator programmes.

“It definitely won’t be easy to ‘re-invent’ banking within 24 hours but that’s precisely the challenge we’re throwing at our community of hackers. In past editions of JomHack, we’ve seen lots of amazing ideas being produced so we’re pretty confident this edition will see some great results as well. This is also how our participants learn, grow and level-up their skills,” said Inbaraj Suppiah, the chief of JomHack Malaysia.

“I am confident the hackathon will add value to the Bank, the financial industry as well as customers, and will be a great platform for discovering new innovations and ideas for both the Bank and the banking industry in general,” said Fuda.

Registration for HLB Hackathon: Can You Hack It 2018 is now opened until Sept 28, 2018.
