Climate Update: February | Feature Tech
A look back at Februay’s weather.
The ‘Beast from the East’ brought temperatures down for large swathes of northern Europe. But, whilst this happened unseasonably warm weather dominated the Arctic.
In the Arctic it was more than 20°C warmer than average. At the same time, cold air was sweeping Europe, warm air was dominating the Arctic region.
Higher temperatures were also recorded over parts of the USA and Mexico, Turkey and the Caucasus region, across the Middle East and north-eastern Africa.
The cold weather caused wide-spread disruption for many parts of Northern Europe. Cities like Rome, which has not seen snow since 2012 were completely covered. Some scientists say that without halting global warming these weather phenomenons may continue.
3rd warmest February on record. Globally more than 0.4°C warmer than average Feb from 1981-2010. Temp in #Arctic much above average; in most of Europe & large parts of Canada very low #temperature.
