“At the moment, this is a limited release for the Japanese market.”

During Japan’s Nintendo Direct today, Assassin’s Creed was confirmed to be released in Japan on the Nintendo Switch via a “cloud ” that will stream the game directly to the system.

As for if this cloud version will head anywhere outside of Japan, Ubisoft stated to GameSpot that “at the moment, this is a limited release for the Japanese market.”

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will mark the first time an Assassin’s Creed title will be playable on a Nintendo console since 2013’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.

Before then, only two other titles were available for Nintendo Systems – Assassin’s Creed: Altair’s Chronicles for the Nintendo DS and Assassin’s Creed III for the Wii U.

Earlier this year, it was announced that the cloud version of Resident Evil 7 would be arriving in Japan, and after our hands-on, we said that “After testing the game in multiple environments, we can confirm that it works better than you’d expect, especially if you’ve been disappointed in the past with services such as PlayStation Now – but still it comes with some problematic caveats.”

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will take the series to Ancient Greece during the Peloponessian war in 431 BC, before the events of 2017’s Assassin’s Creed Origins, and will allow players to fight for either Athens or Sparta and choose between two playable characters with branching decision-based story paths.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s DLC plan was also revealed, and will contain two new stories and a remaster of Assassin’s Creed III. The Legacy of the First Blade and The Fate of Atlantis will each have three episodes and will be released around six weeks apart.

Assassin’s Creed Odyssey will launch on October 5, 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and the cloud version for the Nintendo Switch will be released on the same day.
