A year’s worth of updates.

Bungie has released a roadmap for 2, detailing what players can expect following the launch of the game’s third expansion, Forsaken.

The game will continue using its seasonal model, with the year broken up into several three-month seasons, with each season providing different challenges, loot, rewards and more.

This additional seasonal content will be free of charge, although some updates will be exclusive to players who have purchased Forsaken. As an example, Season of the Outlaw will see both a Raid (Last Wish), as well as an “evolution” for the Dreaming City, exclusive to Forsaken players.

The Season of the Outlaw seems to be providing plenty of content for non-Forsaken players as well, with the return of both the Iron Banner and Festival of the Lost events, as well as a new Crucible map (Convergence) and mode (Breakthrough) in September.

In addition to the free seasonal updates, Destiny 2 is offering a paid Annual Pass. This will provide additional content which Bungie refers to as “new endgame activities and modes, discovery, and challenges”. This seems to be an attempt by Bungie to provide more transparency over how endgame activities will work, following a negative response from players after the previous expansion, Curse of Osiris, DLC-locked some endgame activities.

Each of the seasons appear to follow a similar pattern, providing new weapons, Crucible content and gameplay updates, with December’s Season of the Forge also providing the return of heavy weapons and “The Dawning” event; Bungie are leaving some mysteries to be uncovered, with untitled events for both Spring 2019’s Season of the Drifter and Summer 2019’s untitled season.

Annual Pass content will drop in tandem with the seasons; the Season of the Forge will see Annual Pass holders granted new Exotics, Legendaries and Raids through the Black Armory update, while the Season of the Drifter will be accompanied by Joker’s Wild, offering further Legendaries and Exotics, as well as a “new activity” and an evolution of the new Gambit system.

Summer’s untitled season will be joined by Penumbra, an Annual Pass update which will again provide new Exotics, Legendaries and Raids, as well as another “new activity”.
