Looking for seamless remote desktop / offload computer work experience onto local desktop from low-spec pc

I’m looking to essentially have a raspberry pi or low-spec low-cost linux pc be in my living room as the media center and offload as much processing and memory use as possible to my ubuntu desktop that’s in another room. I’ve dabbled with ssh and rsync, but I feel I have some ways to go before I learn this thoroughly enough to see it through.

What I have in mind but not sure if it’s possible – using said low-spec pc and opening firefox and seeing the browser as expected, but the work that eats into CPU and RAM is almost entirely offloaded onto the desktop, making it run as if I’m using my loud desktop with no intermediary computer. I’d like similar functionality with kodi, conky, other aesthetic things primarily.

What are some key terms I may be missing / is this even possible?
