Twitter is lacing up its cleats for the 2018 Major League Soccer All-Star Game Presented by Target, which will take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta Aug. 1.
Hashtag-triggered emoji were created for both the All-Star Game and the MLS Homegrown Game, a showcase of young talent from the league’s youth development system, in which the MLS Homegrown Team will battle Tigres UANL, the reigning Fútbol Mexicano Primera División under-20 champions.
Including the hashtags #MLSHomegrown and #MLSAllStar in tweets will trigger the emojis, and for the MLS Homegrown Game, the MLSHomegrown hashtag will be sewn onto the players’ jerseys and the emoji will be spray-painted onto the field.
The MLS Homegrown Game will be livestreamed exclusively on Twitter via live.twitter.com/mlsenunivision and @MLS from Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground in Atlanta July 31 at 8 p.m. ET
As for the All-Star Game, Los Angeles Football Club forward Carlos Vela was chosen as the captain exclusively via voting on Twitter, with fans making their picks by tweeting with player-specific hashtags.
