Barefoot Continues Its Legacy of LGBTQ Activism With a Documentary at Outfest Film Festival – Info Advertisement

The documentary “One Stride: Chosen Family” premiered last weekend at Outfest Film Festival in Los Angeles. Among the story’s narrators is 27-year-old actress Mj Rodriguez, who plays Blanca in the FX show “Pose” and is part of the largest cast of transgender actors to appear as regulars in a scripted show. She has also appeared in an off-Broadway production of “Rent.”

In “One Stride,” Rodriguez describes the importance of chosen family in her life, especially her self-proclaimed BFF, actress and singer Mila Jam. “One Stride” was directed by Stephen Winter and presented by Barefoot Wine, which has a long history of supporting LGBTQ communities. The brand made its first donation to an LGBTQ charity in 1988 and sponsors over 200 related events every year, according to a press release.

“Barefoot has stood for the same values since its inception: inclusiveness, authenticity, and celebrating community,” said Anna Bell, senior director of marketing at Barefoot. “Through ‘One Stride: Chosen Family’ and the pairs featured in the documentary, we bring the screen a way to honor those values forged through friendship.”

Barefoot recently launched another initiative called the Barefoot Bestie Label program, which allows wine lovers to customize rainbow Barefoot labels in celebration of a best friend. The program is meant to build community by “connecting diverse populations to discover, discuss and celebrate stories of LGBTQ lives,” according to the release.
