Items that you can purchase without state sales tax vary from state to state, but may include clothing, school supplies, books and computers. Each state has its own stipulations—for instance, tax-free clothing is capped at $100 in many places—so visit your appropriate government website (usually the department of revenue page) to read the fine print.
