Change the Alexa Wake Word for Fire HD Tablet in Show Mode – Info Tips and Tricks
Fire HD Tablets in Show Mode
To change Alexa’s wake word on other Echo devices, you need to do it through the Alexa app. With the Fire HD tablet, you can change it directly through the tablet Settings section. Open Settings and tap Alexa under the Device options.
On the next screen, you will see the option “Wake Word” on the menu — tap it. and it will pop up another screen where you can change it from “Alexa” to “Amazon.” Other Echo devices allow you a couple more wake words options including “Echo” and “Computer” (awesome for fans of Star Trek), but currently, only the two options for the Fire HD are available. Hopefully, more wake word options will be added in a future update.

In the Alexa settings, you can also turn the Echo Spatial Perception (ESP) behavior feature on or off. The ESP setting is worth experimenting with if you have more than one Alexa device within earshot with the same wake word. It’s meant to have the Alexa device that’s nearest to you to respond first. But you might want to turn it on or off depending on the room acoustics and device placement to see which works best in your situation.
If you already have a 2017 Fire HD 8 or HD 10 tablet, and want to make it a more useful device, you can pick up the Show Mode Dock from Amazon. The regular price is $39.99 for the HD 8 and $54.99 for the HD 10 but keep your eye out as Amazon frequently offers special pricing on its products. So far, I’ve found Show Mode to work best in the kitchen and by changing the wake word, I don’t need to worry about waking up the Echo Dot in the other room.
