Last week, Apple made a surprise announcement of brand new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar models, including a top of the line Intel Core i9 option. This week, however, early testing has shed light on how the 15-inch MacBook Pro struggles to handle the heat generated by the new processor, resulting in significant performance throttling.
The issue was first brought to light by a YouTube video from David Lee, who noted severe throttling while exporting a video with Adobe Premiere. Then, our own Jeff Benjamin found similar results when using Apple’s own Final Cut Pro.
Meanwhile, Apple celebrated World Emoji Day this week in full force. The company unveiled over 70 new emoji coming to iOS and Mac this fall, including red hair, superheroes, and lobsters. The company also gave its Leadership webpage a Memoji themed overhaul in celebration of the big day.
In iOS news, Apple released the fourth developer beta of iOS 12 this week, as well as the third public beta. Additionally, a handy Reddit user provided us with some stunning 5K wallpapers directly from the demo iPad Pro models in Apple Stores.
We also have a bit of positive MacBook Pro with Touch Bar news. Early reviews of the new models started to come out this week, and they were overwhelming positive. Reviewers praised the new True Town display, as well as huge improvements in speed. Our full review roundup is here.
Last but not least the Digits 3 tap calculator app for iPhone and iPad was updated this week with a new design, Split View, and much more. In celebration of the new release, we have 20 promo codes to give away. The app is available on the App Store for $2.99, but use one of the codes below to get it for free.
