Let’s Get Virtual with Red Hat!
Virtualization has been a primary staple of the IT industry for many years. If you’ve looked into virtualization at all, you’ve probably heard of some of the established platforms such as VMware. Well, for the last few years, there has been a rising contender in the world of Virtualization, Red Hat! Red Hat has been an industry leader in IT and is well known for its popular operating system, Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Their virtualization platform, Red Hat Virtualization, was announced in 2010 and has really begun to mature in the last few years. If you are interested in learning about Red Hat Virtualization, or becoming a Red Hat Certified Specialist in Virtualization, then you are in luck. I am happy to announce the Red Hat Certified Specialist in Virtualization Preparation Course!
For anyone pursuing their Red Hat Certified Architect, the Red Hat Certified Specialist in Virtualization certification will count as one of your endorsements. This exam would be a great way to continue growing your knowledge of the Red Hat platform. This hands-on training course is designed to teach you how to administer a Red Hat Virtualization environment and to prepare you for the Red Hat Certified Specialist in Virtualization exam (EX318). We will be covering all of the public objectives provided by Red Hat and discussing virtualization for those who are new to the concept. Here are some of the topics that are covered:
- Installing the Red Hat Virtualization Manager and Hypervisor
- Managing Storage Domains
- Creating and Configuring Data Centers and Clusters
- Working with Snapshots
- Installing Virtual Machines and Automatically Deploying them
cloud-init Tool
One of the greatest features of Red Hat Virtualization is the cloud-init tool. This tool allows you to automate the initial setup of a virtual machine. With it, you can configure system settings such as the hostname and network interfaces without even logging into the machine. We will be learning about cloud-init as well as the other options Red Hat Virtualization provides for managing and deploying virtual machines.
Red Hat Community
Red Hat has a large community base, and Red Hat Virtualization benefits heavily from this. In the same way that Red Hat uses its upstream operating system, Fedora, for community driven testing and development, they have also released oVirt as an open source virtualization platform. These upstream projects allow Red Hat to try out new features and allow the community to contribute. Changes made to oVirt often find their way back to Red Hat Virtualization.
Here at Linux Academy, we pride ourselves on providing learning activities to aid you in your study. For this hands-on course, I have included an interactive study tool, the Nova Atlas. This tool is designed for you to have a single location where you can learn about Red Hat Virtualization, and see how the different components work together. I’ve found Red Hat Virtualization to be a very intuitive virtualization platform, and I’m excited for us to work through this content together!
