External GPU Support with Bootcamp
Hi folks,
I could use some help in understanding the limitations or possibilities when using an external GPU with my Bootcamp'd Mac.
Firstly, this is the machine I am using: https://everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook_pro/specs/macbook-pro-core-i7-2.5-15-dual-graphics-mid-2014-retina-display-specs.html
The important thing to know, here, is that this Mac is only Thunderbolt 2 enabled.
As for the graphics card that I'd like to use, that is a full-size Nvidia GTX 970 (I also have a 770 if that makes a difference).
Is it possible to purchase a thunderbolt enclosure that would A)Work with the 970 (or 770) B)Work with Bootcamp C) Work with Thunderbolt 2
I have been doing some reading regarding using Thunderbolt 3 enclosures, and with the apple adapter, making them work with Thuderbolt 2 compatible Macs, but I haven't found anything conclusive.
My main motivation is to get some extra graphical "oomf" while staying mobile. The GT 750m that is currently running in my Mac is very quickly becoming obsolete.
Thanks for any help in advance. I'm more than prepared to hear "no, this isn't possible," but I thought I'd try anyway. Also, if this is not the sub to ask this kind of question, please let me know where would be more appropriate. Thanks!
